Maid is opportunist, model's lawyer said

NEW YORK, Aug. 11 (UPI) -- Naomi Campbell's attorney reportedly labeled the New York maid who accused the supermodel of attacking her as an opportunist.

"Because of their celebrity, individuals such as Miss Campbell can be the targets of these sorts of allegations. (Millicent) Burton has apparently admitted publicly that she started things, and it is troubling she intends to capitalize on the incident she created," John Rosenberg said in Wednesday's New York Post.

Rosenberg cited the police report that allegedly quoted Burton has saying she started the fight, which began with packing a suitcase at Campbell's Park Avenue apartment and ended with the women hitting each other.

Burton, 44, reportedly went to Lenox Hill Hospital for her injuries.

Salvatore Gangemi, Burton's lawyer, defended his client.

"It's unfortunate Miss Campbell's attorneys see Miss Burton as an opportunist. I'm surprised he said that. In fact, Ms. Burton never said she was the first to instigate this argument with Naomi Campbell. Take one look at Naomi Campbell and one look at Ms. Burton and you could figure it out for yourself," Gangemi said.
