Idol runner-up gets role in soap opera

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Matthew Metzger, a runner-up on American Idol, has a new show business gig on the long running soap opera One Life To Live.

Metzger is to play Duke Buchanan, who left the show and Llanview, Pa., as a toddler in 1992. In the 12 years since, he has grown to adulthood.

Zap2it.com reports that Metzger caught the eye of the wife of ABC Daytime President Brian Frons during his run on American Idol. He also apparently caught the eye of One Life To Live casting.
