LOS ANGELES, Aug. 6 (UPI) -- A 60-foot Los Angeles billboard depicting oral sex promoting the upcoming film "The Brown Bunny" has been removed.

The poster featured an explicit image in which actress Chloë Sevigny appeared to be performing oral sex on Vincent Gallo, her director and co-star.

Located on Sunset Boulevard next to the exclusive Chateau Marmont Hotel, the sign was taken down after several newspapers ran stories about it, the Los Angeles Times said, and community leaders objected.

The hotly controversial movie, which opens in New York and Los Angeles later this month, stunned viewers at this year's Cannes Film Festival because of the explicit 10-minute sex scene, the World Entertainment News Network said.

Sevigny recently defended the film. saying: "The sex in the movie is not in any way gratuitous. It is a truly heartbreaking movie. I am proud of it."
