Matt Dillon joins 'Love Bug' cast

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 5 (UPI) -- Matt Dillon will play the villain in the upcoming Disney remake of the classic family comedy "The Love Bug," The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

Dillon will play Trip, a bad boy on the NASCAR racing circuit, in "Herbie: Fully Loaded." Lindsay Lohan and Michael Keaton are already onboard for the project, and the Reporter said Breckin Meyer is in talks to join the cast as well.

The movie is Disney's attempt to rework the "Love Bug" movies from the 1960s and '70s for contemporary audiences. The original -- directed by Robert Stephenson ("Mary Poppins," "The Absent Minded Professor," "Old Yeller") -- featured Dean Jones as a racecar driver who drove a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own to a championship.
