Christian Slater contracts chicken pox
LONDON, July 31 (UPI) -- Chicken pox may keep Hollywood's Christian Slater from his British stage debut in the Edinburgh Festival's production of "One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest."
Slater was taken ill Friday while rehearsing in London, the BBC reported. Producers, however, remain hopeful Slater will recover in time to appear in the first performance Aug. 6.
Slater, star of True Romance and Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, plays Randle P. McMurphy in the production, a role made famous by Jack Nicholson in the Oscar-winning 1975 film.
The play, written by Dale Wasserman, is adapted from the book by the late Ken Kesey.
Snoop Dogg 'doesn't deserve to have fans'
BOSTON, July 31 (UPI) -- Rapper-turned-pornographer Snoop Dogg stiffed a Boston crowd had paid to meet him this week at a night spot, the Boston Herald reported Saturday.
After his performance at the Tweeter Center with Linkin Park as part of the Projekt Revolution Tour, Snoop Dogg showed up at Boston Waves just before midnight Thursday, some 90 minutes later than scheduled.
Fans had paid as much as $99 to meet the recording artist and adult film producer but the first thing Dogg did was to go into a back room and light up a joint, said promoter Fred Balboni.
And then Dogg, who was paid for his appearance as soon as he arrived at the club, quickly left by a back door - much to the consternation of now-former fans.
"I hate him now," said Charlie Daly, one member of a 300-plus crowd. "I will never, ever, buy another record. He can make all the movies he wants. I will not go. I guess he's cutting a CD right now, and I hope to God nobody buys it.
"He doesn't deserve to have fans."
Nicholas Cage marries for the third time
HOLLYWOOD, July 31 (UPI) -- Actor Nicolas Cage has married a 20-year-old former sushi waitress in northern California just two months after formalizing his split from Lisa Marie Presley.
Alice Kim and Cage were married during a private ceremony Friday, E! Online reported Saturday.
It is the third marriage for Cage; the first for Kim.
Cage married Presley in August 2002 and divorced her in May. He previously was married to actress Patricia Arquette.
Cage, an Oscar winner for 1995's Leaving Las Vegas, will next be seen on screens in November in the action-adventure National Treasure.

Girl group honored by Paul McCartney
LIVERPOOL, England, July 31 (UPI) -- Paul McCartney presented the girl band The Bangles with "rock-and-roll" diplomas Friday.
The diplomas give the group honorary status at the Liverpool Institute of Performing Arts and are equivalent to an honorary degree.
The Bangles, Vicki and Debbi Paterson, Susanna Hoffs and Michael Steele, produced a number of hits in the 1980s and broke up in 1989. Their numbers include Eternal Flame, Manic Monday and Going Down to Liverpool.
McCartney, now Sir Paul, founded the Liverpool Institute in 1996, following the model of New York's High School of Performing Arts.
