LOS ANGELES, July 30 (UPI) -- A Los Angeles judge delayed the Catherine Zeta-Jones stalking hearing for a day because the defendant was too drowsy to participate.

Dawnette R. Knight, in jail since her June 6 arrest, took two sleeping pills the night before she was due in court Thursday and it kept the alleged stalker knocked out even into the next day, E! Online reported Friday.

Los Angeles Superior Court Judge Patricia Schnegg dismissed Thursday's session, part of the preliminary hearing to determine if Knight should stand trial on 25 charges of stalking and making criminal threats against Zeta-Jones.

"Her eyes were closing and it was hard for her to follow the proceedings," said Richard Herman, Knight's attorney. Herman added his client likely got the pills from an inmate.

The hearing was to resume Friday.

Zeta-Jones and husband, Michael Douglas, have been in court this week testifying about the 33-year-old woman's threats.
