Michael Keaton in 'Love Bug' remake

LOS ANGELES, July 30 (UPI) -- Michael Keaton has joined Lindsay Lohan in the cast of "Herbie: Fully Loaded," Daily Variety said Friday.

The movie is Disney's attempt to re-work the "Love Bug" movies from the 1960s and '70s for contemporary audiences.

The original -- directed by Robert Stephenson ("Mary Poppins," "The Absent Minded Professor," "Old Yeller") -- featured Dean Jones as a racecar driver who drove a Volkswagen Beetle with a mind of its own to a championship.

The updated version -- to be directed by Angela Robinson ("D.E.B.S.") -- is set in the world of NASCAR racing.
