Spike Lee may direct Ellroy screenplay

LOS ANGELES, July 29 (UPI) -- Spike Lee is in talks to direct "The Night Watchman," an original screenplay by novelist James Ellroy, The Hollywood Reporter said Thursday.

"The Night Watchman" is described as an ensemble piece in the vein of Ellroy's "L.A. Confidential." The story -- set in Los Angeles in the early '90s -- involves a police officer who uncovers corruption in the departmen and must break it up to save his own career and reputation.
