LOS ANGELES, July 26 (UPI) -- Clear Channel Entertainment TV is pitching a TV special to benefit families of U.S. military people in Iraq and Afghanistan, Daily Variety said Monday.

The paper said the non-profit group Citizens Helping Heroes is organizating the event, envisioned as a two-hour prime time special on a broadcast network. Producers reportedly have already lined up appearances by such sports celebrities as Magic Johnson, Troy Aikman, Cal Ripken, Sammy Sosa, Andy Roddick, Reggie Jackson and Jim Brown.

Joe Townley, president of CCE-TV, told Variety he had not signed any musical acts yet. Variety said Citizens Helping Heroes' Web site announced the show will take place on Sept. 23 at the DAR Constitution Hall in Washington, D.C.

According to Variety, CCE-TV will try to buy a two-hour block of network prime time over Thanksgiving weekend to broadcast a tape of the concert.
