'American Idol' sets auditions

LOS ANGELES, July 26 (UPI) -- "American Idol" will audition contestants for its upcoming season in eight U.S. cities beginning Aug. 4, Fox TV announced Monday.

The first audition will be held in Cleveland at Cleveland Browns Stadium. For about two months after that, the show will audition aspiring singers in St. Louis; Washington, D.C.; Orlando; New Orleans; Las Vegas; Anchorage, Ala. and San Francisco.

The next season of "American Idol" is scheduled to begin in January 2005. The network has posted more information, forms and requirements for contestants at idolonfox.com.

For the upcoming season, Fox has expanded the age range of contestants, allowing a slightly older group into the audition process. Now, contestants must be between the ages of 16-28 to audition.
