'Carnivale' adds 'lobster girl' to cast

LOS ANGELES, July 23 (UPI) -- A former newscaster with genetically deformed hands and feet who gained fame as a disability rights advocate has signed on with HBO's "Carnivale."

Bree Walker will play "Lobster Girl" in the second season of the unconventional show about a traveling carnival during the Depression, sources told Friday's New York Post.

Walker, 51, was an anchor at KCBS-TV, Los Angeles, when she came under fire for choosing to have children despite a 50 percent chance her children would also have fused fingers and toes. Her teenage children both have the defect, the Post said.

Although Walker is divorced her children's father, sportscaster Jim Lampley, they still live together and co-own a film and TV production company. They have said publicly they plan to remarry.

Season two of "Carnivale" begins in January.
