LOS ANGELES, July 21 (UPI) -- Utah software engineer Ken Jennings Wednesday brought his "Jeopardy" winnings to $1,194,660, adding $30,000 in his 36th appearance.

Host Alex Trebek opened the show by apologizing to the 30-year-old Salt Lake City resident.

"Obviously 'Jeopardy' is ruining his summer vacation," Trebek quipped.

Trebek also noted Jennings is getting close to the record for consecutive game show appearances, which stands at 44.

Jennings started the show by running the first two categories and not allowing either of the other contestants, adjunct professor Art Borgemenke of El Paso, Texas, and international sales manager Liese Tamburrino of Pahrump, Nev., to answer a single question before the first commercial break.

Jennings went into the final round with $26,800 and wagered $3,200 on the final answer: "Her recording career lasted just eight years, starting in 1955 with 'a church, a courtroom and then good-bye."

Both Jennings and Borgemenke came up with the correct question: "Who is Patsy Cline?"

Borgemenke won $8,800 and Tamburrino won nothing.
