NEW YORK, July 12 (UPI) -- Rocker Courtney Love could be off to jail when she leaves the New York hospital where her treatment resulted in a missed Los Angeles court date.

"She wants to defend the charges, and what she is looking to do now is get back into (California) without going through an arrest, which would be stressful on anyone, much less someone just out of the hospital," Love's attorney Michael Rosenstein told Monday's New York Post.

Love missed an arraignment in Los Angeles Friday on charges she assaulted a fan last October.

The same day, Love's 40th birthday, New York medics responded to a call at her Soho apartment on a report of a miscarriage. When emergency personnel arrived, Love, bleeding and acting strangely, said she had had an abortion.

Love's spokesperson confirmed she had been admitted to Bellevue Hospital for a "gynecological medical condition."

Love was expected to be discharged from the hospital Monday.

Rosenstein said he will ask the court to hold the arrest warrant.
