More records for 'Spider-Man 2'

July 9, 2004 at 3:07 PM

LOS ANGELES, July 9 (UPI) -- "Spider-Man 2" has set another U.S. box-office record, topping $200 million in eight days in release, Daily Variety reported Friday.

"Spider-Man" held the previous record for reaching $200 million the fastest, turning the trick in nine days in 2002.

Box-office analysts expect "Spider-Man 2" will stay hot this weekend, as new competition arrives in the form of the new Will Ferrell comedy "Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy," and the new youth comedy "Sleepover." The new Disney costume drama "King Arthur" opened Wednesday.

"Fahrenheit 9/11" will expand to 2,011 theaters.

"Spider-Man 2" grossed $12 million Tuesday and another $10 million Wednesday, taking it past the $200 million mark.
