Fantasia debuts at No. 1 on Billboard 100

NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- "American Idol's" Fantasia Barrino debuted at No. 1 with "I Believe," ending Usher's 19-week hold at the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 music chart.

"I Believe" followed the footsteps of another "Idol" winner, Clay Aiken, whose debut "This Is the Night" entered the Hot 100 singles chart at No. 1 approximately one year ago, Billboard reported Thursday.

Usher dominated the Top 10, despite his fall from the top slot, with "Burn" at No. 2, Confessions Part II" at No. 3, and "Yeah!" with Lil Jon and Ludacris at No. 7.

Hoobastank's "The Reason," ranked No. 4, Alicia Keys' "If I Ain't Got You" was No. 5 and Juvenile's "Slow Motion" featuring Soulja Slim was No. 6.

Petey Pablo's "Freek-A-Leek" held the No. 8 slot, with Nina Sky's "Move Ya Body" featuring Jabba and Lloyd Banks' "On Fire" ranking 9th and 10th, respectively.

George Harrison's doctor facing lawsuit

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., July 1 (UPI) -- The controversial New York doctor who treated ex-Beatle George Harrison has been sued for $30 million for allegedly pushing a fake cancer cure.

Elizabeth Ryan has accused Dr. Gil Lederman of touting "body radiosurgery" therapy and showing statistics that falsely showed the treatment would help her husband Thomas who had pancreatic cancer, Britain's Sun reported Thursday.

Thomas Ryan later died at Lederman's Staten Island, N.Y., headquarters, where Harrison was treated in 2001 for cancer.

Lederman has already settled a $10 million lawsuit brought by Olivia Harrison, the musician's widow, for allegedly asking the legendary guitarist to sign a guitar on his deathbed. Lederman later had the souvenir guitar valued at approximately $6,000.

"These doctors are preying on desperate people," said Matthew Lifflander, Ryan's attorney.

Great White singer sues publicist

LOS ANGELES, July 1 (UPI) -- Great White singer Jack Russell is suing the U.S. band's former publicist alleging she falsely claimed he stole money from a victims' trust fund.

Russell filed a multimillion-dollar libel suit against Charrie Foglio Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court, accusing Foglio of telling the press that Russell and manager Obi Steinman embezzled funds from the Station Family Fund, Billboard.com reported Thursday.

The fund was set up for victims of a fire that broke out during a 2003 Great White concert in West Warwick, R.I., killing 100 people and injuring about 200 others.

The suit alleges Foglio told Russell and Steinman she would tell investigators they took money from the charity if she did not receive a severance package when they fired her in 2003.

Foglio followed through on her threat when Russell and Steinman refused. A Station Family Fund investigation proved Foglio's charges were false, the suit said.

Paula Jones: 'It started with me'

NEW YORK, July 1 (UPI) -- Paula Jones says her sexual harassment accusations against Bill Clinton started the frenzy that eventually led to the former U.S. president's impeachment.

Jones talks about her lawsuit, in which she alleged Clinton exposed himself to her, and about Clinton's newly released memoirs "My Life" during an interview on ABC News' "Primetime," which airs Thursday, ABC reported.

"I agree that I was a small little entity in this big vast whatever-you-want-to-call-it that got erected. It started with me -- and they did use me for their own agendas," Jones said referring to politicians who worked to get Clinton impeached.

Jones said she was shocked when Clinton recently said he had an affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky "because he could."

"Oh, my! He actually admitted that -- and that's why he did that with me. You know, he did it because he could. Because he used his power. So that's exactly my thought when he said that," Jones said.

Clinton denied Jones' allegations and in November 1998 paid her $850,000 to settle the suit.
