STATEN ISLAND, N.Y., July 1 (UPI) -- The controversial New York doctor who treated ex-Beatle George Harrison has been sued for $30 million for allegedly pushing a fake cancer cure.
Elizabeth Ryan has accused Dr. Gil Lederman of touting "body radiosurgery" therapy and showing statistics that falsely showed the treatment would help her husband Thomas who had pancreatic cancer, Britain's Sun reported Thursday.
Thomas Ryan later died at Lederman's Staten Island, N.Y., headquarters, where Harrison was treated in 2001 for cancer.
Lederman has already settled a $10 million lawsuit brought by Olivia Harrison, the musician's widow, for allegedly asking the legendary guitarist to sign a guitar on his deathbed. Lederman later had the souvenir guitar valued at approximately $6,000.
"These doctors are preying on desperate people," said Matthew Lifflander, Ryan's attorney.
