NEW YORK, June 28 (UPI) -- New York escort services and stripper clubs are bringing in extras to help with the anticipated upswing in business during the Republican National Convention.
"We have girls from London, Seattle, California, all coming in for that week," a Manhattan escort service madam said in Monday's New York Daily News. "It's the week everyone wants to work."
The Republicans will be at Madison Square Garden Aug. 30 through Sept. 2.
"We've got everything organized -- the hotels, the flights, the advertisements," said another escort service operator. "We'll probably have 60 girls that week, instead of the usual 30."
With the added business comes additional hazards, one insider said.
"I get depressed whenever there's a big political convention because I know the street girls are going to be hassled, arrested and treated like criminals, all in the name of 'cleaning up' our city for these people from out of town," said Tracy Quan, author of the autobiographical novel, "Diary of a Manhattan Call Girl."
