McCartney performs at Glastonbury

PILTON, England, June 27 (UPI) -- For the first time since 1970, Paul McCartney headlined at the Glastonbury Festival -- a sort of Woodstock -- near Pilton, England.

The BBC reported Sunday McCartney's performance capped his European tour -- he performed in Lisbon, Portugal; Leipzig, Germany; Prague, Czech Republic; St. Petersburg, Russia; Madrid; Paris; Zurich, Switzerland; Gothenburg, Sweden; Oslo, Norway; and Helsinki, Finland.

Basement Jaxx, the Black Eyed Peas and jazz artist Jamie Cullum were among dozens of other acts performing at the festival.

After an appeal from the government for festival attendees not to urinate in nearby streams, Britain's Environment Agency said streams on the site were free of concert-generated pollution.
