Kingston says age no factor in 'ER' ouster

LONDON, June 18 (UPI) -- Actress Alex Kingston says age had nothing to do with her character Dr. Elizabeth Corday being dropped from U.S. TV's "E.R."

"We mutually felt that my character's storylines had run their course and all of the characters that Corday was involved with had left the show and we agreed that maybe it was time to move on," she told the BBC.

Kingston had remarked in an earlier interview with the Radio Times that her contract wasn't being renewed because the producers thought she was one of the old fogeys in the cast who was no longer interesting.

But, now she says that idea is "absolutely not true at all -- not true."

"I am horrified and embarrassed for 'E.R.' as they have no right to be tarred with this ageism brush because they are absolutely not like that at all," she said.
