Actress Robin Givens sued in auto mishap

MIAMI, June 18 (UPI) -- An 89-year-old woman allegedly struck and crippled by Robin Givens Jan. 27 is suing the actress for an unspecified amount of money.

The right leg of Maria Antonia Alcover, who may never walk again, was nearly severed in the accident but doctors were able to save it, The Miami Herald said.

She was struck as she crossed a busy Miami street.

Givens has pleaded innocent to a ticket issued for the accident but the trial, scheduled for Wednesday, was delayed until Sept. 13 because witnesses had not been notified.

Givens was issued a ticket for failure to use due care when a pedestrian was in a crosswalk, police said.

Givens' attorney, Steve Jugo, said the outcome of the traffic trial will not have an impact on the outcome of the civil suit.
