B'way legends donate items to N.Y. library

NEW YORK, June 16 (UPI) -- Legendary Broadway teams Kander and Ebb, and Bock and Harnick have donated stage memorabilia to The New York Public Library for the Performing Arts.

Included in the gift were thousands of pages of scripts, songs and other artifacts, The New York Times reported Wednesday.

Although they range in importance, there are some treasures that offer a glimpse into what went into creating classic musicals like "Cabaret" and "Fiddler on the Roof."

John Kander and Fred Ebb, of "Cabaret" and "Chicago" fame, and Sheldon Harnick and Jerrold Bock, who wrote "Fiddler" and "She Loves Me," among other musicals, were present Tuesday as beaming library officials announced their donations.

"This indeed is an immensely important gift," said Paul LeClerc, the president of the New York Public Library, adding that the collection would be a valuable research tool for generations of theater artists. "It will stay with us as long as it exists, and as long as we exist, and we're not going anywhere."
