LONDON, June 14 (UPI) -- British filmmaker Guy Ritchie says he is a firm believer in the Kabbalah, the study of Jewish mysticism his American wife, Madonna, has followed for years.

Britain's Daily Mirror quotes Ritchie as saying he initially worried the religious group that was courting Madonna was after her money but admits he now thinks otherwise after speaking to founder, Rabbi Philip Berg.

"Kabbalah is an extension of the way most of us try to live our lives. It's just about being a decent person," Ritchie explained.

"Put it this way, I've never met a kabbalist who is a (jerk)."

As for whether the pop star has had to pay for her "spiritual enlightenment," Ritchie said, "After six years, she has never received any kind of bill from anyone."
