Errol Morris to direct TV documentaries

NEW YORK, June 14 (UPI) -- Errol Morris will direct a series of six one-hour TV documentaries on famous people, Daily Variety reported Monday.

Morris' study of former defense Secretary Robert McNamara, "The Fog of War," won the Oscar this year for Best Documentary. The new series will be distributed by Hearst Entertainment.

Bruce Paisner, president of Hearst Entertainment, told Variety the network that eventually contracts to carry the Morris films will have some input in deciding who the interview subjects will be.

Hearst is a part-owner of A&E and the History Channel. Paisner said he's planning to pitch the series to the broadcast networks and other cable networks, to try to get the best deal for Morris, who is a partner in the series.

"Politics and diplomacy are what interest me," Morris said. "I want to do living history from the inside out. Most documentary makers tell the story of events and bring on a variety of people to discuss many, many different points of view."
