Less sex for TBS' 'Sex and the City'

NEW YORK, June 9 (UPI) -- "Sex and the City" is set to make its U.S. basic cable debut on TBS without some of the sex, nudity and raunchy language that made the series a HBO phenomenon.

TBS will begin airing edited versions of "Sex and the City" Tuesday, with two episodes, back to back, for its inaugural week, the New York Times reported Wednesday, with a regular schedule following the week of June 20.

Although the series required extensive editing, the TBS version will carry at TV-14 rating for sexual situations and language, with editors aiming for enough raunchiness to satisfy the 18-to-49-year-old demographic TBS is targeting, the Times said.

"I was very impressed," said Nelly Mecklenburg, a 14-year-old fan who viewed the edited episodes. "You couldn't tell when they edited certain words, and it actually still seemed like the same show."

But, she said, the TBS version lacks something.

"HBO makes it special, because the show can be raunchy," she said. "The language and sex aren't the most important part, but they add to it."
