Harry Potter agents nix pre-school ballet

LONDON, June 3 (UPI) -- Choreographer Valerie LeServe says a 10-minute dance routine she created based on "Harry Potter" for a charity review has been canceled.

Le Serve told The Times of London Thursday she wrote to the firm representing author J.K. Rowling and received a reply from Neil Blair saying Warner Brothers, producer of the "Harry Potter" movies, has rights over any live theatrical or musical production based on the series of Rowling novels through 2007.

"It is simply not possible for us to pick and choose however worthy the cause, which in this particular case was clearly most worthy," Le Serve quoted agent Neil Blair as writing.

LeServe said her dance routine was to have been performed by pre-school children in Worthing in southern England wearing cat and owl outfits. She said she would adapt the costumes to another dance with a wizard theme.

"I am flattered that they consider us to be such a great threat to their plans," she said.
