'Harry Potter' tops kids' favorite books

LONDON, June 2 (UPI) -- British children have named J.K. Rowling's "Harry Potter" books as their favorites, a survey said.

More than half of the 300 children questioned named one of the five "Harry Potter" titles in their top three favorite books, the BBC reported Wednesday, earning the popular children's series a first place ranking.

J.R.R. Tolkien's "Lord of the Rings" trilogy placed second in the poll.

Other favorite books were:

"Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," No. 3; "The Cat in the Hat," No. 4; "Matilda," No. 5; The Twits," No. 6; Jacqueline Wilson's "Tracy Beaker" books, No. 7; "The Jungle Book," No. 8; "The BFG," No. 9; and "Winnie the Pooh," No. 10.

The Prince of Wales Arts and Kids Foundation surveyed children between the ages of 7 and 14.
