Some unhappy with 'Cops' in Cincinnati

CINCINNATI, May 27 (UPI) -- Cincinnati's Vice Mayor Alicia Reece and some council members fear filming by Fox TV's "Cops" will tarnish their city's image.

The Cincinnati Enquirer reported Thursday Reece was "upset and appalled" that the show was being filmed in the Queen City without the council's input or consent.

"I do not see the benefit of bringing 'Cops' into our city," Reece said. "I don't think video of people getting arrested or people getting shot is the image we want to portray."

"Cops" film crews arrived in Cincinnati Tuesday to begin eight weeks of filming and Reece said it's a bad time because Cincinnati police have been investigating 31 homicides so far this year.

"I don't think video of people getting arrested or people getting shot is the image we want to portray," she said.

However, Cincinnati City Manager Valerie Lemmie said Police Chief Tom Streicher did confer with her and Mayor Charlie Luken about the show.

"The chief felt it would portray a positive image of what we do every day," Lemmie said.
