LOS ANGELES, May 25 (UPI) -- Rapper Snoop Dogg has filed for divorce from his wife of seven years in Los Angeles, it was reported Tuesday.

Dogg, whose real name is Calvin Broadus, filed divorce papers Friday in Los Angeles Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences as the reason for the breakup from Shante Broadus, E! Online reported Tuesday.

The rap star is seeking joint custody of the couple's three children, Corde, 9; Cordell, 7; and Cori, 4.

Broadus' lawyer said his client hopes the divorce will proceed as amiably as possible, E! Online said.

The rapper debuted in 1993 with "Doggystyle" on Dr. Dre's Death Row Records. He left the label in 1995, citing fear for his life as the reason for leaving.

His most recent album, "Paid Tha Cost to be Da Bo$$," was released in 2002.

Dogg has appeared in feature films "Baby Boy" and "Starsky & Hutch." His most recent movie, "Soul Plane," with Method Man, opens Friday.
