'Harry Potter' casting notes

LOS ANGELES, May 25 (UPI) -- Brendan Gleeson will join the cast of Warner Bros.' "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," Daily Variety reported Tuesday.

Gleeson -- best known to movie audiences for "Cold Mountain" and "Gangs of New York" -- will play Alastor "Mad Eye" Moody, the newest professor of defense against the dark arts at the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

The Irish-born actor is currently onscreen in "Troy." He is also in the cast of "The Village," the M. Night Shyamalan thriller due in theaters in July.

Variety said that British TV star Frances de la Tour will also appear in "Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire," as Madame Maxime -- the half-giantess who serves as headmistress of Hogwarts rival, the Beauxbatons Academy.

"Goblet of Fire" -- directed by Mike Newell from a screenplay by Steve Kloves -- is projected for a for a fall 2005 release.
