LOS ANGELES, May 24 (UPI) -- The producers of "American Idol" are joining with Dick Clark to bring "American Bandstand" back to U.S. television.

Clark, the original series' host; Simon Fuller at 19 Entertainment, "American Idol's" producer; and Allen Shapiro of Mosaic Media Group, a major stockholder in Dick Clark Productions; plan to relaunch "American Bandstand" in the summer 2005 after a national search for a host, Zap2it.com reported Monday.

"Bringing back an American tradition like 'Bandstand' has always been a dream of mine, and I can't think of a better person to partner with than Simon Fuller, whose foresight in trend-setting television shows and music will surely bring the show new luster and then some," Clark said.

The original series aired on ABC from 1957 to 1987.
