NEW YORK, May 18 (UPI) -- Jimmy Fallon is leaving NBC's "Saturday Night Live" after a six year stint on the comedy sketch show.

Fallon, in signing off the "Weekend Update" desk Saturday for the season's finale, told fans "I'm Jimmy Fallon. I might as well say thanks; this is my last show. Good night and have a pleasant tomorrow," E! Online reported Tuesday.

Fallon's exit was expected, the Web site said, with NBC President Jeff Zucker saying the comedian had been clear about leaving the show.

Fallon, 29, not only leaves an empty seat on "Weekend Update," but takes a stable of characters with him, including Nick Burns, the unfriendly computer tech guy and Jarrett, the pothead host of "Jarrett's Room."

The comic will next star in "Taxi" with Queen Latifah, a film due out in late 2004.
