'Frasier's' Lilith not sad as show ends

NEW YORK, May 13 (UPI) -- Actress Bebe Neuwirth said she feels no strong emotion that NBC's long-running sitcom "Frasier" is ending.

"I really don't know how I feel about" the show ending, Neuwirth said with a shrug, the New York Daily News reported Thursday. "There is a sort of nostalgic poignancy to it. But I don't know. It's strange ... ."

Neuwirth played Frasier Crane's wife, Lilith, for 18 years, first on "Cheers" and then on the NBC spin-off "Frasier," which ends its 10 seasons Thursday in a two-hour finale.

The actress said her TV role as Lilith had always taken a backseat to her love of Broadway.

"I felt I didn't really want to do 'Cheers,' (because) I was afraid I would be typecast. I was afraid I'd spend too much time away from New York and the theater," she said.

Neuwirth is in previews for her Broadway musical, "Here Lies Jenny" at the Zipper Theater, featuring music by German composer Kurt Weill.
