Brokaw to stay with NBC until 2014

NEW YORK, May 12 (UPI) -- Veteran U.S. TV news anchor Tom Brokaw has signed a new contract that will keep him at NBC through 2014, NBC Universal announced in New York Wednesday.

After stepping down as anchor and managing editor of "NBC Nightly News" on Dec. 1, 2004, Brokaw will anchor and produce documentaries on a wide range of issues for the NBC television network and for other NBC properties.

"For more than two decades, Tom Brokaw has been the public face of NBC News and a mentor and inspiration to his colleagues," said Vice Chairman of GE and Chairman of NBC Universal Bob Wright. "We are very pleased he will remain with us for at least another decade, and that the American public will continue to benefit from Tom's talent and experience."

In addition to his documentary work, Brokaw will participate in coverage of major news events as an analyst.

A best-selling author, he also plans to continue his writing career.
