NEW YORK, May 4 (UPI) -- "The Cosby Show's" Clare Huxtable, the witty, smart woman who kept five children and a husband in line, has been voted as U.S. TV's most popular mom.

More than 700 adults whose mother or mother-in-law was alive voted for the TV mom who was "closest to your own mom in spirit" in the survey by Opinion Research Corporation, the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

Phylicia Rashad played Huxtable, who also worked as a lawyer on the NBC show, for eight years alongside series star Bill Cosby.

"The Cosby Show" ended in 1992.

Rashad, 55, currently is starring with Sean Combs in the Broadway production of "A Raisin in the Sun.

Mrs. Cunningham of "Happy Days," played by Marion Ross, was the second favorite TV mom, followed by cartoon Marge Simpson of "The Simpsons."
