BANGKOK, April 26 (UPI) -- Actor Jackie Chan is in Cambodia visiting children affected by HIV/AIDS and land mines in his new role as goodwill ambassador for the United Nations.
The world body announced Chan's selection Monday as goodwill ambassador, news that coincided with Chan's first U.N. mission, a three-day trip to Cambodia.
"I always think I am so lucky. So, now it's time to give back," Chan told the BBC.
Chan's service will deal specifically with The United Nations Children's Fund and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS, the U.N. agency that coordinates efforts to combat the HIV/AIDS epidemic.
Chan, 50, contacted the U.N. after viewing a film about land mines.
In Cambodia, up to 6 million land mines remain following the Vietnam War and three decades of civil conflict.
