LONDON, April 23 (UPI) -- Soccer icon David Beckham and actress Parminder Nagra have been nominated for England's Ethnic Multi-Cultural Awards or Emmas.

The annual awards ceremony recognizes contributions made to cross-cultural understanding in the United Kingdom, Hello! magazine noted on its Web site.

Nagra starred in the feel-good soccer film "Bend it Like Beckham" last year and can now be seen on the U.S. hospital drama "ER," however, she is in the running for best actress for her role in the British TV series "Second Generation."

Beckham is in line for the sports personality of the year award.

The race for best male actor will be run by "EastEnders" actor Gary Beadle, "Holby City"'s Art Malik, "Casualty" star Kwame Kwei-Armah, "Love Actually" actor Chiwetel Ejiofor and Adrian Lester from "Hustle."

Beyonce, Missy Elliott, Outkast, The Black Eyed Peas and Norah Jones are on the shortlist for best international music act.

The late Bruce Lee will be honored with a lifetime achievement award for his contribution to cross-cultural understanding, the magazine said.
