HBO, ESPN each win 7 sports Emmys

NEW YORK, April 20 (UPI) -- U.S. cable television networks HBO and ESPN/ESPN 2 have each been honored with seven Sports Emmy Awards, the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

NBC earned four trophies, while Fox and ABC took home three each from the 25th annual event held Tuesday in New York.

"MLB on Fox: Postseason" won the award for best live special over the ABC entries: the Super Bowl XXXVII broadcast and the Stanley Cup Finals, the trade paper noted.

ESPN's "SportsCenter" won the award for best daily sports show, while the network's "Sunday NFL Countdown" earned the Emmy for best weekly studio sports program. "ESPN NFL Sunday Night Football" was the winner in the best live series category.
