Gibson looking for 'Passion' TV deal

LOS ANGELES, April 14 (UPI) -- Mel Gibson's Icon Productions has reportedly started shopping for TV licensing deals for his Bible blockbuster, "The Passion of the Christ."

"The Passion" is the first huge hit to come along as a true free agent for pay TV and broadcast/basic cable licensing in more than five years, The Hollywood Reporter noted.

The last time the situation arose was when Fox bought the rights to George Lucas' "Star Wars: Episode I: The Phantom Menace."

Industry sources told the trade paper each of the four major U.S. broadcast networks has been pitched the movie, along with HBO, Showtime and other major cable stations.
