N.Y. publisher plans gay wedding mag

NEW YORK, April 13 (UPI) -- New York-based Rainbow Enterprises Tuesday announced the launch of "Rainbow Weddings," the first gay and lesbian wedding magazine.

The magazine will celebrate the concept of same-sex marriage and offer comprehensive information to those involved in planning their wedding, as well as honeymoon destinations. "Rainbow Weddings" will also feature articles on same-sex celebrity couples and practical advice for newlyweds.

Michael Weiskopf, the magazine's founder and CEO, said he sees the publication as a sourcebook for wedding planners, as well as a unifying voice for gay people seeking equal rights with heterosexuals when it comes to marriage.

"There is really no formal protocol for gay marriage or civil union," Weiskopf said. "We see the magazine as a vehicle where we can provide inspiration for a memorable day for committed couples. The magazine will also serve as a community vehicle for alternative family lifestyles with practical information on everything from child rearing to travel."

One San Francisco-based research firm, Community Marketing, estimates gay spending on marriage could top $1 billion in three years, adding to the $55 billion gays spend on travel a year.

The first issue of "Rainbow Weddings" will be published in December with a circulation of 100,000.
