Student sues Prince for alleged attack

MINNEAPOLIS, April 8 (UPI) -- A college student has sued Prince and his bodyguard for alleged assault that occurred as the student photographed the music star at a Minneapolis airport.

Attorneys for Anthony Fitzgerald of Edina, Minn., filed a lawsuit Wednesday alleging assault and battery, loss of the camera and intentional infliction of emotional distress that left Fitzgerald anxious and unable to sleep following the incident, the Minneapolis Star-Tribune reported Thursday.

The altercation occurred Dec. 29 when Prince was leaving a plane at the Minneapolis-St.Paul International Airport.

When Fitzgerald snapped the photo, Prince's bodyguard, identified in the lawsuit as "Trevor," jumped at the student "in an aggressive, threatening manner," then grabbed the digital camera, leaving Fitzgerald "stunned and humiliated," the legal papers allege.

The suit, which was dated Jan. 14, was filed Wednesday, because Prince's associates would not accept a copy of it, attorney Frank Berman said. Fitzgerald has asked the court for instructions on how to file it.

Prince's spokeswoman, Ronnie Lippin, said she wasn't familiar with the lawsuit.
