Berkeley fans not buying Hung album

BERKELEY, Calif., April 7 (UPI) -- Fans in California are reportedly not lining up to buy the first album by beloved, but untalented "American Idol" singer William Hung.

Hung, an engineering student at University of California in Berkeley, was kicked off the show half-way through his dreadful performance of "She Bangs," but his dream of being a pop star and sincere, enthusiastic attitude earned him a cult following and appearances on numerous TV talk shows.

His fans haven't been forking over money for his 15-track cover album "Inspiration," since it was released Tuesday, however, the San Francisco Chronicle reported Wednesday.

"It's a horrible CD," proclaimed Steve Lee, manager of Rasputin Records in Berkeley.

Lee saw only one copy sell in the first hour the CD was available.

"A lot of people think it's funny. But even as a comic novelty album, you still have to listen to it," he said.

A local Tower Records, which ordered about 50 of Hung's CDs, reported one man bought three CDs the first hour.

The staff said they put the CD on in the store, but had to yank it after a few minutes because they couldn't "stand any more."
