Englebert Humperdink revives career

LONDON, April 2 (UPI) -- Entertainer Englebert Humperdink has returned to the top of the British charts 30 years after his reign as a sexy international superstar.

The singer has become trendy again, first by starring in a John Smith beer ad with comedian Peter Kay, and now with an album at No. 7 on the British music charts, Britain's daily Sun reported Friday.

Humperdink's signature tune, "Please Release Me," also is set to be redistributed throughout Britain.

"A person goes through cycles of, shall we say, being on top," Humperdink said. "If you wait long enough and work hard enough, it will come back."

Although with the world's largest fan club -- 500 branches -- and 140 performances annually, it may not seem that Humperdink went away, but the singer said he has wanted a recording comeback for a long time.

"Now my home country has given me a hit record and brought me back into the limelight again, which is what I badly wanted," he said.

"It seems as though it's my turn again. My destiny."
