NEW YORK, April 2 (UPI) -- ABC has imposed a five-second delay on its two live New York-based shows, "Good Morning America" and "The View."

"We're in the process of taking the steps necessary to ensure that what we air best serves our stations and our audience," ABC Daytime executive Felicia Minei Behr told the New York Post.

The delay to give the network the chance to censor anything inappropriate, began Wednesday on "GMA" when Janet Jackson performed.

Jackson is credited with sparking the recent crackdown on indecency when her breast was revealed during a sexy Super Bowl appearance with Justin Timberlake.

"We have other ways, without using a five-second delay, of protecting our shows if we were concerned," Minei Behr said.

"In the past, we've asked for pretaped segments if we felt we were skating on thin ice."

Minei Behr told The Post the delay would have been instituted eventually even without Jackson's so-called wardrobe malfunction, noting, "It's been in discussion for months, but what the Super Bowl did was give everyone something to point to."
