NEW YORK, March 30 (UPI) -- Janet Jackson says people should be concerned with global issues such as famines and disease rather than her bare-breasted Super Bowl performance.

"I think there are more important things going on in the world. There is war, hunger, the homeless and AIDS," Jackson said, using the line during at least two different interviews in response to questions about her infamous Super Bowl halftime show, the Washington Post reported Tuesday.

Jackson is back on the publicity trail for the first time since the "wardrobe malfunction" to promote her new album, "Damita Jo," was released Tuesday.

The singer tried to evade David Letterman's direct questions during her Monday appearance on CBS' "The Late Show," giving her pat answer, the same she had given to talk show host Nancy O'Dell earlier in the day for an "Access Hollywood" segment.

"I know you don't mean that," Letterman said in response to Jackson's apparently well-rehearsed remarks.

Jackson is set to appear this week on ABC's "Good Morning America," BET's "106 & Park," and as host of "Saturday Night Live."
