Gervais wants an 'Office' on Broadway

NEW YORK, March 29 (UPI) -- Comedian Ricky Gervais would like to bring his British TV hit "The Office" to Broadway, but worries he does not have enough U.S. fans to pull it off.

"It would be a dream come true. I would love to do it," Gervais said Monday in Britain's Sun about the U.S. theatrical version of his show. "We'd need to get a theater and I wonder if enough people have heard of me."

Gervais stars in the BBC's "The Office," which won two Golden Globe awards in February, marking the first time a British actor has won a U.S. TV comedy acting award.

The 42-year-old Reading, England, humorist is working with NBC on a U.S. version of "The Office."

"NBC chose a much younger, more handsome guy for their show than me," Gervais said, "But I'm really excited about seeing the show."
