Great White 'Burning House' CD off shelves

PROVIDENCE, R.I., March 25 (UPI) -- Great White is trying to halt distribution of its "House of Burning Love" CD, citing poor taste because of the band's ties to a deadly U.S. nightclub fire.

Horizon Italy and its North American distributor, City Hall Records, which released the unauthorized project, agreed sales would be halted, but the CD remains for sale at Amazon.com, MSNBC reported Thursday.

The distributor chose the album's name without any thought given to the Feb. 20, 2003, West Warwick, R.I., fire where 100 died, including the band's guitarist Ty Longley, band manager Obi Steinman said.

The album features covers of other bands' songs performed by Great White. The title track, originally recorded by the band X, was performed by Great White during the concert on the night of the fire.

Steinman said the band's lawyers are researching whether Horizon Italy has the legal rights to the recordings.

The two owners of The Station nightclub and the band's former tour manager have been indicted on manslaughter charges stemming from the fire.
