Aretha Franklin hospitalized in Detroit

DETROIT, March 23 (UPI) -- Aretha Franklin has been hospitalized in Detroit but no details are being released about the R&B legend's ailment or the length of her stay.

Franklin was in stable condition, her publicist, Gwendolyn Quinn, told Tuesday's edition of E!Online, but Quinn did not provide additional information about the singer's health.

Franklin, who was admitted to the hospital Saturday, has been plagued by a variety of health concerns. The singer said that she quit smoking in 1991. Despite rumors of heavy drinking, Franklin has denied she is an alcoholic.

Franklin also has been vocal about her battle with obesity. Last November, she told Vanity Fair her weight is the one thing she would change about herself.

"I'm working on it," Franklin said in the article. "I will return!"

Franklin, who turns 62 Thursday, left the road in 2003, ending her "Aretha Sings her Musical History" tour.
