Quaid is Disney's latest animated villain

NEWTON, N.J., March 18 (UPI) -- Actor Randy Quaid says he relished the chance to play an evil, yodeling cattle rustler in the new animated Disney western, "Home on the Range."

"When they told me about the project and described they wanted to make a western animated movie, I got real excited ," Quaid told UPI in a phone interview Thursday. "I've always loved those Disney old animated movies and this is sort of a throwback to their heyday ... with the hand-painted film.

"And to play the villain, too," he said. "I was even more thrilled about that."

Quaid's character in the film sings to cows to subdue them.

"He's the old Smiley Whiplash-type of villain; put the girl on the railroad tracks," he explained. "He was larger than life. He has this image of himself as this intelligent, cultured gentleman, but he's really just a greedy scum-bag."

As for the singing, Quaid said: "(Composer) Alan Menken really helped me a lot in the recording session, and the yodeling, I did the first part of the yodel and then they brought in stunt yodelers to do the rest."
