Howard Stern has stern words for Bush

NEW YORK, March 18 (UPI) -- U.S. radio talk-show host Howard Stern is exhorting his listeners to vote against the president amidst the government crackdown on on-air obscenity.

"If you're listening to me now, the one thing I ask you to do is vote against Bush," Stern said on a recent radio broadcast. "Vote for Kerry," said Stern, referring to the senator from Massachusetts and presumed Democratic presidential nominee.

Stern has the third-largest audience for a radio morning show, estimated at 8.5 million listeners.

"Howard Stern is going to prove to be George Bush's worst political nightmare if he continues in this vein," Michael Harrison, publisher of Talkers magazine, told ABC-TV.

Stern has ventured into the political arena previously. He claims credit for helping two Republicans win close elections -- former Gov. Christie Todd Whitman of New Jersey and Gov. George Pataki of New York.
