Madonna, Van Halen planning tours

NEW YORK, March 16 (UPI) -- Van Halen and Madonna are both planning concert tours, Pollstar reported Tuesday.

A Van Halen reunion with Sammy Hagar -- which would be its first since 1995 -- is viewed as a virtual certainty, while a tour announcement for Madonna has been expected for months, Pollstar said.

The Van Halen rumors began last fall when the band signed with Irving Azoff, longtime manager of Hagar, the Eagles, Journey and others.

Around the same time, Hagar revealed he was talking to estranged bandmates Alex and Eddie Van Halen for the first time in seven years.

The William Morris Agency is reportedly booking North American arenas for a Van Halen excursion this summer.

The group's last outing was in 1998 with former Extreme singer Gary Cherone handling vocal duties, Pollstar noted.

Meanwhile, Madonna is said to be planning her first tour since 2001.

Bagpipe player Calum "Spud" Fraser said he has been invited to perform on a summer world tour with the pop superstar. Other reports say she is auditioning dancers in Los Angeles.
